What Is BetContest?

BetContest is a sports handicapping contest between friends. There is finally a way to determine who is the best sports handicapper using the real-world metrics of money management and game selection. Participants are given contest dollars with which they have the ability to bet on the point spread, moneyline and total of a collection of selected games.

The Participant that amasses the most contest dollars within the timeframe of the Contest is the winner. BetContest allows Participants the ability to wager various amounts on multiple games through the use of contest dollars.

Rules & Scoring

The Contest Host is the commissioner of the Contest. The Host sets up which games will be in the contest, invites contestants, sets the amount of contest dollars Participants will have and will be the main point of contact for Participants.

BetContest allows Participants the ability to wager various amounts on multiple games through the use of contest dollars. This is the amount of play money that the Participant uses in the Contest. This amount is usually agreed on by the Host and the Participants.

The Participant that amasses the most contest dollars within the timeframe of the Contest is the winner.

Contests could be between 2 players or many more. There is no limit on the number of Participants that can be in a contest.

BetContest offers Hosts the ability to host a Contest by choosing at least two (2) games from either a single day of games, a single week of games or some other denomination of games. Contests can run up to an entire full season of games (inclusive of playoffs), several weeks of games or just one day’s worth of games. The Host selects which lines in the selected timeframe of games that Participants can wager their contest dollars on.

Once a Participant is accepted to a Contest by a Host, they can play in their Contest by clicking on the My Contests tab at the bottom of the main screen. Any current Contest is located in the Current tab (see top in the My Contests page). Find your Contest and click on Add More Bets to wager on games.

Participants will be provided with contest dollars, an amount of play money set by the Host, with which to wager on sports games. Hosts can create a contest using one or some combination of the ability to wager on the point spread, moneyline and total.

·       Point Spread: The point spread is an amount of points oddsmakers believe one team is favored over another. For example, if the NY Giants are 7 point favorites over the Dallas Cowboys, the point spread would read: NY Giants -7 (-110) or Dallas Cowboys +7 (-110). If a Participant chose the NY Giants -7, the Giants would have to win by at least 8 points for the Participant to win the wager. If the Giants win by exactly 7 points, the bet pushes and no contest dollars are lost or won. Most point spreads have a standard vigorish of -110 on both sides of the spread. This means that in this example, if a Participant were to wager on the Cowboys +7 (-110) and the Participant is risking $110 contest dollars to win $100 contest dollars. If the Cowboys lose by 6 points, the Participant wins $100 contest dollars. If the Cowboys lose by 8 points, the Participant loses $100 contest dollars.

·       Moneyline: The moneyline is the oddsmakers true line on the favorite and underdog. For example, if the Carolina Panthers are a -210 moneyline vs. the NY Jets (+175), the Participant would have to risk $210 to win $100 if they wagered on the Panthers. If the Participant wagered on the underdog Jets, they would risk $100 to win $175.

·       Total: The total is the oddsmakers estimated total points scored for a game. Totals are bet either over or under and usually carry a -110 vigorish. For example, if the total of the Vikings and Bengals game is 48 points, the Participant can wager that the total will go over 48 points by risking $110 to win $100 or they can wager that the total will go under 48 points by risking $100 to win $100. If the Participant wagered the over and the game finished with a total combined score of 51, the Participant has won the wager and vice versa.

Participants must make three separate wagers (that totals to 10% of their total contest dollars) or wager at least 10% of their total contest dollars during each session of a Contest. For example, if a Contest with $10,000 in initial contest dollars runs the entirety of the NFL season (all 17 weeks), every Participant in the Contest would have to wager at least $1,000 the first week or make three separate wagers totaling at least 10% of their contest dollars each week of the Contest. In this example, after Week 1 (first session) and each subsequent Week, each Participant would have to make at least 3 wagers equaling at least 10% of their contest dollars.

Any Participant that does not meet the minimum wager requirements is subject to a $500 contest dollar penalty.

Wagers are made either as a Total Risk or Win amount of contest dollars. Whichever way the Participant chooses to enter their wager, the math is calculated for them by the app for the other side. For example, a Participant chooses to wager $500 on the Carolina Panthers -4 (-110) spread. The Participant can enter that in the Total Risk tab as $550 or in the Win tab as $500. That wager will be reflected as Carolina Panthers -4 (-110) Total Risk $550 / To Win $500. If the Participant chose to enter the $500 on the Total Risk tab it would be reflected as Carolina Panthers -4 (-110) Total Risk $500 / To Win $454.

Contest Participants cannot wager more contest dollars (Risk) than they have in their Available balance.

Picks are due prior to game time. Once games begin, they are locked and Participants will be unable to wager on those games. The Host is unable to make any changes or exceptions to this rule.

BetContest does not accept any money or offer any prizes. BetContest is a service in which friends can test their sports handicapping skills against each other.
